Vegan leather vs plant-based leather? What is the difference?
We use plant-based leathers, mainly cactus and apple leather. We want to make a clear distinction between “plant-based” leather and "vegan" leather. Plant-based leather is bio based, 100% vegan and cruelty free. A lot of brands use “vegan” leather but it is often made of PVC / PU which contains mainly plastic and toxic ingredients. Plant based leathers include apple, cactus, grape and pineapple leathers, they have primarily bio based content, have a low carbon footprint and a low environmental impact.
What is plantleather?
Plantleather or plant-based "leather" is a sustainable biobased leather alternative made from bio based or plant-based materials. Plantleathers are materials made from plants and fruits such as cactus, apples, pineapples, grapes, mangoes and mushrooms. The purpose of plantleathers is to reduce the impact of the leather industry on both humans and the environment.
What makes your brand sustainable?
At Kairi, we put a huge amount and time and research into sustainable practice. Sustainability and ethical practice are at the heart of what we do. We are constantly working to improve our sustainable goals and all the materials are very carefully researched and tested, they are certified and recognised for their sustainable credentials. Additionally, all our packaging is recyclable and reusable, we use organic materials and produce bags that last and are good quality.
Where do you produce your bags?
We produce our bags in a small factory in England. All our bags are made and handcrafted in England.
What materials to you use?
We use all organic sustainable certified materials and bio-leathers. These include: pineapple leather, apple leather and cactus leather .
Are all your products vegan?
Yes, all our products are vegan. All the materials we use are bio-based and vegan certified.
What packaging do you use?
We use all recyclable and reusable packaging and avoid plastic. This includes compostable bags, recyclable bubble wrap , reusable organic cotton bags, recyclable labels and cards.
